Digital Site Modeling
Being able to visualize a project remotely or in the office can save time and money and help keep project stakeholders in the loop. Being able to take accurate measurements from the data can help engineers and other professionals make educated decisions without putting anyone in the field. In this article we share a 3D model and show off a few measurements.
To demonstrate some of the capabilities of drones in the environmental and construction field, Geomatix sent a team out to a local environmental remediation firm—Hill Environmental—and executed a series of flights to capture data and generate a site model.
The team setup GPS enabled ground controls and performed a pre-planned mission over the property. Additionally, the team captured inspection photos of the roof and radio antenna on the building as well as some marketing video. Below we take a closer look at some of the final deliverables.
3D Modeling & Point Clouds
Below is a sample point cloud. You can zoom, rotate and slide the model around to view the building from any angle. In the office, or in our web-viewer, we can use this data to take and share measurements.
Pan and Rotate the model above with the left and right mouse buttons. Zoom with the scroll wheel.
While the above can be useful for offsite personnel to get an idea of the site, the most important thing to us is actionable data. That's why everything we produce is suitable for extremely accurate measurements. Calculate square footage, depth, height, distance and volumes all in our convenient web-viewer.
